Deep Woods

In North Georgia, if you wander and hike through the woods, you will discover a lot of history long lost. This experience was walking through the woods in Union County near my home. To my knowledge, I was in the woods, far from any roads or old logging roads. I came upon this foundation and fireplace; in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes I wish my camera could make a picture of a scene, only of it a hundred years prior. I like to imagine what would appear in the frame. This was one of those times.

I was obsessed with the famous Civil War photographer Mathew Brady when I was a kid. In one of the books I owned about him, a modern photographer researched the Brady photographs and returned to that precise location and view. It was mindboggling to see dead soldiers in Brady's photo propped up behind a boulder and, in the modern picture, a healed land surrounding the same boulder.

Limited edition 01/05; 15x12 Image is shown below custom framed with an 8-ply matte. The framed size is 23x20 inches.
